Espionage +++ Abyssinia to Brass Barony Of course. Currently, we are discussing the matter of dividing up the Syrian and egyptian territories with the Ottomans. They want to control Egypt. Perhaps you could apply some pressure on them as well in the matter?

Benin Empire@japan :The docks of Nouveau Paris were used to see all types of men pass through. Still, the ones who walked out of that ship gathered a fair amount of curiosity among the locals : their yellowish skin and narrow eyes made them here even more alien that the europeans.
Yet, the Oda agreed to meet the delegation : trade knew no border when coins were offered. Empty words of friendship were exchanged but soon, the discussion turned to the main point : export and import.
The Japaneses, because they offer an opening to a new market, are offered unlimited access to ivory, gold, diamond, rubber, precious wood, pepper, fruits, slaves and any other commodities they may fancy. However, they are forbidden to venture beyond Nouveau Paris and the other trade outposts on the coast.
The Oda asks what the Japaneses could offer in return. @swiss :The letter of the Swiss Guard made the Oda laugh very hard. He was the son of a mercenary king and could count on both quality and quantity far above any of his neighbors. The offer would "be reflected upon". @puppy :Military: +++- Tech: ++- World Opinion: +++ "No-Spear-In-Your-Head" Tax on neighbours :Preparatives are made for raids to the North and East. Mostly small parties of local troops, equipped with firearms, drilled correctly and supervised by European officers. They count on speed and overwhelming local tactical advantage to win. If they encounter a true army, they run away. The aim is to get tribute from neighboring tribes and kingdoms. Those who pay are asked to send family members to Nouveau Paris, along with gifts for the Oda. Those who do not pay are victim of raids against villages. Men are killed, wealth is looted, women and children are taken as slaves. Each warrior receive 1/10 of his pay upfront. The rest is taken from the loot and paid upon return.

Benin Empire@japan :The populace might go restless without food. If your rice is cheap and available in large quantity, then we shall trade. Iron is also favored...along with obsolete firearms if they can be bought in bulk. Japanese art might have a hard time finding buyers but the Oda is interested. @puppy :Economy: ++++ -Purchase of firearms and cannons from passing merchants (Portugese and Dutches, mainly). -Try to create a few forges to create cannons and rifles. Weaponsmiths from Europe are contacted and offered good wages to emigrate. -Try to get access to the raw material for gunpowder. If not possible with domestic production, investigate potential trade partners.

Empire of Japan - Esp. ++++ The art was mostly thrown into the deal because rich foreigners have expressed interest in buying things like that before.
We have plenty of rice available for shipping. Obsolete firearms as well.

Japan Ah. I have three sons that you could choose from- Prince Alexander, George, and Thomas.
If you could describe your daughters personality, I could recommend which one would be the best fit.

Brass BaronyThe Brass Baron stands over a man made of brass, pondering his next move. Eventually, however, he gets up and leaves his laboratory, drafting several letters in his royal office. Brass Barony to the Netherlands The Barony of Estor would like to open trade with the Dutch. Will you allow us to trade wheat, potatos, oats, and other foods to you, in exchange for linen, cloth, and so forth?
Regards, Baron Augustine von Estor, the Brass Baron.
Brass Barony to France If you are unwilling or unable to sell colonies, what about selling vassals? Do you have any German vassals that are too much trouble to deal with any longer? We'd gladly take them in exchange for giving you money.
Regards, Baron Augustine von Estor, the Brass Baron.
Brass Barony to Abyssinia Unfortunately, the Ottomans are overconfident. They rudely rejected our offer when all the Barony asked for was free passage through the Straits of Bosphorus and the Black Sea. We implied that we could take our services to Ali Pasha if they refused, and they answered that they already had mercenaries to spare.
Now what am I to do with the Turks?
Brass Barony to Sweden Excellent. I am in the process of giving you the secrets you want from me, and trust that you will do the same. Shall you announce our action, or shall I?
Brass Barony to Venice
As we discussed earlier, we are sending you what you desire from the Barony. We would like for you to uphold your end of the deal.
@gm I am giving the blueprints of my Brassmen and coal-powered brass machines with Sweden. In return, they are to give me the blueprints of their explosives technology. I shall also send a metalsmith knowing the secrets of my technology to Sweden, to teach in their academies. Ditto for Venice, except they aren't giving me any technology.

Espionage +++- To the Brass Barony Fear Not, Venice always honors it's contracts, one way or another.
To Puppy Due to the somewhat enigmatic response from our subcontractors, Masked Knights in France begin covertly spreading some money around and establishing contacts in the Underworld. Since it may turn out to be unnecessary they are only doing this to a limited extent, merely to establish something to work off of should Venice need to fulfill it's contract personally.

Abyssinia to Brass Barony, Espionage +++ Ultimately, the Ottomans are as overconfident and dangerous as the Syrians. In time, they will both have to be removed, or shown their place. If the red sea wasn't as important for trade as it is, I'd recommend letting them kill each other. As it stands, however, we can not just stand by, as anyone blocking Egypt cuts off Abyssinian trade. So, for now, we will help the turks, but not agree to their rude demands. As for their mercenaries to spare: we are currently in negotiations with switzerland.
Abyssinia to Switzerland Did you receive our last offer? We have not seen an answer so far. To make it short: we will outbid offer you receive from either the ottomans or the syrians, as it is against our interests if you help either of them. Furthermore, we will hire you to take on the Syrians in Egypt together with our forces.

Empire of Japan - Esp. ++++ That should be easy to arrange... Perhaps the meeting should be held in your nation? Normally traditions would prevent her from leaving the capital except for certain things, but this would be a small step toward the future, where such a meaningless tradition holds no value.

Japan Indeed. I will send six warships to you. Two will be laden with trade goods, and engineers for trade. One will be empty if you wish to send some of your own. Three will be fully outfitted for war.
They can escort the princess to New York, my capitol.

Empire of Japan - Esp. ++++ That is satisfactory. We shall indeed send some of our own to reciprocate your deeds. Let us hope that this will be the beginning of a most glorious friendship, no?
