Recruitment starts in about two weeks! Please don't PM me/post in this thread just yet, but get those Space Opera minds spinning.
Required reading: Dune, The Dragon Never Sleeps, and Hyperion.
Think Great Houses and capital ship battles.

Oh man. I haven't read The Dragon Never Sleeps. Does that mean I can't apply? Anyway, very interested. Another opportunity to satisfy my inner tech freak.

I haven't read it either, sadly. Anyway, tentative interest posted, but far-future stuff is less my field. We'll see.

Can I substitute House of Suns for the Dragon instead? It's the most far future I've ever read.
(It's set in around the year Six Million A.D.)

Uh, I've read the Dune series (at least the books by Frank Herbert). And part of the Foundation series. Does that count? Anyway, interested. Going to try a different type of faction then I usually do. Probably still a noble house, though.

Hyperion? If I see anything that's spiky and named after a small bird, I'll make sure to have my armies run screaming away from it.
I'm definitely going to be going with Cirig, as I described in the TW 2260 OOC thread. My tactics will run more to the "plucky starfighter pilots, by the thousands" side of things than the capital ship side. Culture-wise, Mongols with bits of Russia, the old West, and the Belters from Known Space.

I'd love to play but I haven't read any of those books unfortanatly I think the books are mainly to get the basic feeling. You shouldn't let that stop you from applying.

Probably going to be a millitant Robespierre-esque revolutionary republic, just because every game needs an "other" for everyone else to team up against.

Name: The Kindred Capital: Various secret centres in many parts of the galaxy. Background: When the Guardians came to destroy the gene-factories and their creations, the less-obviously human were easy to identify, find and destroy. The Slytherskins, created by various governments as spies and assassins not only looked human, but they could also look like several different humans due to their ability to change colour and limited shape-changing. Military: Not big; mainly rely on individual assassins and agents in the Guardians to defend themselves. Morale: Not sure. The Slytherskins are aware that their continued existence is dependant on not betraying the cause. Economy: The Slytherskins sell their services as assassins and spies to any who know how to contact them. They are willing to work for the Guardians (if they ask) but will normally warn the target. Espionage: Slytherskins are very good spies and assassins; it is why they were bred in the first place. Research: Poor. Slytherskins are content with existing technologies and focus on new ways to crack codes and invent their own. Foreign opinion: Slytherskins try to hide thier true nature and the Kindred is believed by those who know of its existence to merely be a sect of death-worshipping assassins. Every world has its own beliefs about Slytherskins, a case of deliberate misinformation deliberatly spread by the Kindred so those who discover the truth don't know the extent and range of their abilities.
If there's anything you want me to change, JJ, I will.

I'm afraid I haven't read any of those books, but I have a basic grasp of the Dune setting.
Interested in playing a transhumanist religious group. Rather obsessed with genetics technology.

Re Kindred: I like, but let's all hold off.
Re Transhumanists: In an effort to draw down on the amount of crazy awesome prevelent in TW cannon (as we were pretty much at 'destroy planets at whim' levels) and to give the scientists in the next game a purpose, (and for IC reasons) a great number of technologies are banned and or heavilied regulated. Among them, genetic technology. The greatest military force in the Network are the Guardians of Humanity, whose sole purpose is the destruction of AI's, genetic abominations, and other banned technologies. Also, should aliens show up, they'll probably fight them too.
Just an FYI, in case you don't want to play an opressed minority.

Can we get a list of banned tech's? and yeah, definitely going with a mechanistic revolutionary republic.

Will this just take place on Earth and the rest of the solar system or will it be the entire galaxy?
